2D My Design for my Animation

This is what I have designed to make my Animation with I have drew out my Race Track on a big sheet of paper and put colour on there. the Racing cars that i am going to use I have printed them off on the Internet and cut them out on a sheet a paper. The Ready, Steady and GO signs that I have drew out on sheets of paper and coloured them in Red, Orange and Green to represent how they look in real life. Also the Characters I have drew out and I have glued them to the back of the cars so they will not fall off the cars and then I wont have to bring the characters with the cars. The sounds that I will be adding at the start of the animation is the Ready Steady Go from Mario Kart DS so it creates the Mario Kart themed effect and I will also be adding the theme tune from Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64 console which was the first console to be brought out onto the market by Nintendo so it will add a bit of history to the animation by going back and using theme tunes from old Mario kart games.

2D Race Car Characters Research

This is the Research that I have done for my animation and some images of what my characters that I am going to design will look like. I will design the characters from these images and use these as my inspiration to draw my characters. I have chosen to look at the wacky racers for my 2D animation research is because it is the most famous car racing program that aired on Cartoon Network and most kids when they were growing up would watch the Wacky Racers one of things that Wacky racers and Cartoon Network didn't do was bring out a game for this so successful program because even though it isn't aired on Television as much now people still go out ad buy the DVDs for Wacky Racers in DVD shops or still watch the program online.

Another program that I looked at when before creating my animation was Mario Kart this is because Mario Kart keeps on getting re booted as a game because it is so popular with parents buying it for there children to play on there games consoles such as the Wii U the Nintendo DS. Mario Kart has been going for over 10 years there has been games on the Gameboy Colour such as Wario Racer and Mario Super Circuit in 2001. Then came the Gameboy Advance where Mario Kart came back on to handheld games consoles then Nintendo brought out the Nintendo DS and the first games to be released onto this handheld games console was Mario Kart and in the Nintendo DSs first year of sales of games this game was always in the top 10 charts for parents of children themselves buying this game to play on in the year 2006 After this when Nintendo launched the Nintendo Wii around 2008 Nintendo released Mario Kart Wii in 2010 and when you bought this game they gave you a wheel so when playing the game if you turned the wheel left it would then turn the car left if you turned the car right it would then turn the car right as well so this was massive for Mario kart and Nintendo and this is why I chose to base my idea around Mario Kart.

2D Animation Program Research Wacky Racers

Another Racing game I also decided to look at was the Wacky Racers game for the Playstation 2 and I decided this because I used to have the game myself growing up as a child and I thought it would be a good idea to look at some gameplay of the tracks and see if I could get some ideas on how to create my track for my animation Lets Race. Unfortunately when I was looking at the gameplay and all the maps before the race I thought they would be to difficult to replicate or even get any ideas from this game and also I thought the Race Tracks on Mario Kart were much better and easier to draw out onto paper to use so I decided to use the original track from Mario Kart but I didn't draw out the stadium for it and just added water and a stand going around the track for people to spectate the race.

2D Animation Research Mario Kart

Before creating my animation Lets Race I decided to do some research into racing games and I thought that Mario Kart would be the best to do some research on and have a look at the gameplay and take some inspiration from it for when I create my animation. The inspirations that I took from this game was I decided to add the Ready Steady Go tune at the start of my race and I also used the music at the end from Mario Kart for the Nintendo 64. I also took some inspirations from the colours of the cars that are on Mario Kart because all of there are different colours such as Red Blue etc and I decided to make my cars Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. One more inspiration I took from Mario kart was the idea of using objects to take you off tracks and I used banana skins for when the drivers are driving so they would fall of the track and go into water and this would then rule them out of the rest of the race.

2D Animation Program Research

South park is an American adult sitcom which was created by Trey Barker and Matt Stone for the Comedy Central television network and it is intended for mature audiences. South Park was a very successful television program because it was different to any other comedies with the designs of the characters  being very different and that it was a 2D animation program and all the characters were all drew out from scratch. South Park is based around 4 characters being Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflowski and Kenny McCormack and there bizarre adventures around Colorado Town America. The show South Park was developed in two animation shots which were created between 1992 and 1995 and before it hit Comedy Central it became an internet phenomenon with internet viral that had been created and in 1997 South Park made its debut on the television and it was a great success constantly getting the best ratings for funniest comedy show on television during its time and is still airing on television in 2015 and has made it to over 16th series of South Park and they are in progress of making a 17th series. The shows popularity shone through and in June 1999 South Park made it to the big screen with South Park Bigger Longer and UnCut and it was a very big success and grossed a lot of money. South Park has been very successful with all the merchandise that has come out for it such as video games for the Xbox one and the Xbox 360 and also the PlayStation 3 and also PlayStation 4 and also this generates them over 7 million a year just on all the games that they sell all over the world and in 1999 in America they released some T-Shirts with all the characters on there and this grossed over $30 million during the first season being shown over in america.

Family Guy just like South Park is an American adult sitcom which was created by Seth Macfarlane for the broadcasting of Fox Studios and the series bases on a family called the Griffins and the characters are as follows Peter Griffin, Lois Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Chris Griffin, Meg Griffin and Brian Griffin Brian being the pet dog. Family Guy was hugely successful like South Park because all the characters were drawn and not made of clay so this would have made them 2D animation because all the characters were drew out from scratch. The Development of Family Guy was that Seth had already developed 2 animated films the Life of Larry and Larry the dog and Steve became Brian and Peter and Seth pitched a 7 minute plot with Peter and Brian to Fox Studios and then from this Family Guy got the go ahead and then production started for Family Guy but Shortly after the third season fox cancelled the sit com but after seeing the sales of the DVDs in America and then in England they then released a fourth season on May 1st 2005. Family Guy was nominated for 12 prime time awards and was the first comedy program to win this award since the Flintstones won it in 1961. Tie in medias have been released for Family Guy such as Family Guy Stewie's Untold Story which went straight onto DVD and was huge success and also the most popular episode the Star Wars Family Guy episode thats on of the only episodes to make it on to DVD on its own as well as the Season that it was on and there has also been a spin off to Family Guy that being the Cleveland Show which aired in 2009 and was based in Quahog but was no where near as successful to Family Guy and was Cancelled in 2013. Family Guy has also been successful in the merchandise front with games being released such as Family Guy the video game which was released by 2K games in 2006 the game wasn't great and got mixed reviews.

2D Research for my Race Track

These are some of the images that I looked at whilst choosing how to design the race track that I am going to be using for my 2D animation. The one that I chose to draw out was the one at the bottom because it wasn't to difficult for me to draw and I added some of my own scenery to go around the Race Track as you can see in one of my other posts. I opted not to draw the other two because I thought they would be to difficult to draw and I liked the design at the bottom so in the end I chose to draw that one. Another reason why I chose the bottom one was because what I have done with my design is I have added to this track not just completely copied it I have added a lake going round the track so if the racers drive to fast around the track they could end up in the water and this means that they are out of the race if this happens. I have also took some inspiration from Mario Kart by adding some bananas to the track so for if they hit one of these they get a 3 second penalty and they could lose there place and it could cost you if your first and this happens because it could come down to seconds and with a 3 second penalty you will lose so I have added some items of my own to the track to make it more difficult for the drivers going around the track.

2D Race Track for my animation

This is my Race track for my animation that I have drew out and what I have to do now is draw out my racers and draw out the karts to race in. I have designed the track like this as I feel that it will be an exciting track to drove round for the drivers and also very testing because of all the sharp corners that are on the track and also there is no long straights so you will not be able to speed around the track. Also if you were to speed round the corners there are bananas and different obstacles that are on the track that won't allow you to speed because you could then slip off the track and you then could end up in the water this part of the track is inspired from the game Mario Kart DS. On this game you can hit bananas and be hit by other objects you could find in boxes and you could eventually spin off the track and lose the race this way and thats why I decided to add the bananas on the corners of the track to make it more interesting for the drivers to see how they would drive around the track.

Storyboard for my 2D Animation

This is my storyboard for my 2D animation showing the different stages of what is happening in my animation the only thing I didn't draw was the racing karts but I have written in the description what is going to happen in the animation. I have drawn up this storyboard showing 5 stages of whats going to happen in my animation there will be 4 cars being Red, Blue, Green and Yellow they will all compete in the race finals for the Championship there will be sound added and I will be adding the Mario Kart Ready Steady Go and when the race finishes I will be adding the theme tune from Mario 64 to the animation from the game on the Nintendo 64.

2D Mind Map for my Animation

This is my mind map that I have done for my animation to show how I have came up with my idea and what the animation will be. With this Mind map what I have done is I have wrote down a few pints for what is going to be in my 2D Animation such as 2D animation so this means that there will be no claymation or anything like that for the advertisement. I have also wrote down about the race track saying that I will be doing some Research into that. I have also wrote down that It will be a cartoon based animation so I will be doing some research into cartoon animations such as Mario Kart and Wacky Racers with my 2D animation being based on racing. I have also got the slogan that I am going to be using saying its the Taking part that counts;.
